Reflection Week 8 (28 May- 1 June, 2012)

How was my Jazz ensemble performance?

My performance today went well because I do a lot of practices either individually or group. My group did really well, we also add some part when we sing together. I was quite nervous because I'm the opening "act". I really hope that my score will end up good. This assessment is GREAT!

Today we don't have any instrument class because the time was used for the ensemble performances. I'm very satisfied with the assessment today due to the reason that my group performance was very good. I'm really proud of you Ivy, Valerie, Raka, Gaby, Jesslyn, and Reikhan. We did a good job! :D

Today is May 30th and this is my last day of music class. I wont be having any music class is grade 11, I dont know why though... Since this is the last class and i wont be meeting my incredible teachers, i just want to say thank you for everything. Thank you for guiding me patiently when i make mistakes. I'm truly sorry about all my mistakes, learning the flute,etc. I hope we can see each other again soon when I was in grade 11. All of you are the greatest most amazing teachers that I ever met. Love you all so much :') 

Reflection Video Week 4

Honestly this video is kinda embarrassing because when it started i directly sing.. so this video is very awkward. But anyway, in this video i am practicing my scales again and i also practice singing "Close To You" because theres a singing assessment coming up. For the singing, i am voice 1 which sings the real/ original tone of the song. Wish me luck for the assessment everyone!

Reflection Video Week 2

Same as the previous video, i am still practicing my scale skills because i didnt do any practice that often (honestly). I'm quite ashamed of my self because i should've done better than this. But i'm still learning so.. Keep moving Anti, you can do it. Make Mr. Hary proud!!

Reflection Video Week 1

In this reflection video, i still have to improve in my blowing and my breathing. I also have to master the scales because it would be difficult if i have to think what is the scale before i play a song. I think that my hand position is wrong too because in playing this instrument, our hands was meant to be straight with our shoulder. Thus i have to remember to raise my hands a little if i'm going to play in the correct position

Reflection Video Week 6

In this video, what i need to improve is in the melody or the composition of "Close To You". I have to practice more because it's for the assessment which is the Jazz ensemble. I will keep trying until i get it right. What is a student without having some mistakes in his/her way of learning. Thus it's my job to keep trying to get it right, wish me luck!

Reflection Video Week 7

What I have to improve in this video is i have to develop my skill in blowing a flute and my breathing skill. I have to remember to test my flute first before playing it. Why? It's because i should not be fixing the flute while i already start blowing. Thus i have to be more careful and test the flute before i start playing the song

Reflection Week 7 (May 21-25, 2012)

What do you think of your jingle?


For this jingle task, I am pairing with my best friend Ivy. She's really nice to work with and i really like her coordination. Our theme for the jingle is Beautiful Indonesia, thus it has to be about Indonesia. We divide our work to two part, which is the jingle composition and the video. Her job is to compose the jingle since i'm not good at it. My job is to make the video which consists of pictures, clips, description, etc. So, my task is to collect some pictures of indonesia and also some short clips of the traditional dances then compile it to a video with no music since the audio is with her. Then after it's done, Ivy and I review it together and the result was amazing. I couldnt be more proud of her composition and my own video.

Reflection Week 6 (May 14-18,2012)

How's the progress of your Jazz Band?


My band progress went really well. We work as a team and we also support each other. I really feel comfortable with my band because they were so funny and fun to work with. For the progress in the music that we will play, we decided to play "Close To You". My band consist of Ivy, Valerie, Gaby, Jesslyn, Raka, Adam Reikhan and myself. We're still working on the intro,etc. We also need to practice more because this is going to be spectacular so we have to do our best!


Today we dont have any instrument class because we use or time to rehears Close to you. I think this far we've done good and I'm really prouf of my band because they done so well. I would like to improve in my blowing and breathing skill because i usually have some difficulties in that part. 

Reflection Week 5 (May 7-11, 2012)

How did my singing assessment go?

My singing assessment went well because we do practices. I think voice 1,2,3 is combining really well. I really enjoy singing this song because this song is very interesting and the melody is really good. I hope I get a good score!

Today we don’t have any instrument class because the time was used for the singing assessment. Thus I don’t have any time to practice my instrument.

Reflection Week 4 ( April 30 - May 4, 2012)

How does business and industry affect music-makers and users?

Music is a great way to express our self. Music contains beautiful melodies and cool effects. If music is loved by everyone in the world, thus music can be one of the sources of money. Music makers have a lot of money because their music was purchase by everyone all over the world, thus music is a good business.

Today I use my instrument time to practice for my singing assessment. Me and my group will sing "Close to you". We will sing in 3 voices to gain a good score. My group contains  5 people, which is me, ivy, richard, raka and valerie. 

Reflection Week 3 (April 23-27, 2012)

How have developments in technology changed the ways in which we engage with music?

With development in technology, music also develop. Why? because with more technology, some genres can have more affects and improve in terms of recording. Pop music is one of the genres that was affected by development in technology. Thus, development in technology really impacts music.

Today we dont have any instrument class. We use the time to do the theory test. It was very hard, thus we need all the time that we can get.

Reflection Week 2 ( April 16-20, 2012)

What are the functions of music in society?

There are so many positive impact and functions. Music can be a hobby, accompaniment when studying, help the brain to improve and as an entertainment. I really love to listen to music because it makes me relax and calm down. I wouldnt be able to live without music. It is truly the biggest factor of happiness for me.

What i do in instrument class is playing F major scale and F major 7th because we didnt have enough time. The reason that we didnt have any time is because we have a test and it needs lots of time

Reflection Week 1 (April 9-13,2012)

What is the role of music in your life?

Music is everything to me. I listen to music every second of my life. I would listen to music when i was bored, doing some homework, browsing the internet, study, etc. Music also makes me happy when i'm sad or angry. I even listened to music when i woke up and do my morning routine.

In instrument class, me and my friend choose a song for the ensemble and try to play it. I didnt do it because my flute was missing and it was not found. I really hope I can find it as soon as possible.

Reflection Week 9 (March 12-16,2012)

How is my understanding now about improvisation especially in blues?
I understand that improvising in blues is very fun. I really like how the rhythm play and the notes sounds. I also know that blues is not that difficult to play because its quite simple, but still it depends in the composition.

I think i've improved quite good in instrument class because i learn so much more every day. Although Mr Hary keeps telling me to practice over and over again, i think i've done good because i've give my best. i'm also quite familiar with the flute and blues. I hope my skills improve so much more and i could play the flute like Mr Hary

Reflection Week 8 (March 5-9,2012)

In the instrument class I practice the 12 bars again. This time i record him while he was playing my composition so that i could see it when i need some correction at home. Then as usual the whole class play some scales and speed.

Reflection Week 7 (27 Feb- 2 March, 2012)

How did I practice and apply my 12 bars blues at home?
I practice at home using the scales. The first step for me to practice is first I warm up then play the scales then I try to play the notes. If it's sounds weird. I will play the bars from the finale to give me some idea how i should've sound

In the instrument class, Mr Hary check my progress in the 12 bars. he said that i still have to improve my scales skill and my speed in playing flute.

Reflection Week 6 (Feb 20-24,2012)

Challenges working on my 12 bars blues finale task?
The challenges are figuring out the notes for every bar and making it swing. Then using the syncopation too, i'm still so confused about it. I got a lot of help from Mr Hary, he help me along the way from the very first process. He know what note that i should put because he really know my ability

In instrument class we first play some scales for warming up. Then Mr Hary ask us if there's anything that we want him to fix or to show. I asked for his help in playing the right scales and following the tempo. After he helped me, i have some idea on playing it better.

Reflection Week 5 (February 13-17,2012)

How is my understanding of blues and applying 12 bars blues?
I began to understand blues a little bit but i didnt quite understand it much. i've done the 12 bars blues and from it i know that blues use C7,F7 and G7 for the scale

In instrument class i got some help from Mr Hary for the 12 bars blues. he help me make it and try to make the composition suitable with my skills. I think its really good because it was not that hard to play. After the composition is done, i'm going to put in on finale 2009 that i have and try to print it. then i will give it to Mr Herry

Reflection Week 4 (February 6-10, 2012)

How do you understand the learning of Jazz through your assesment tasks done 'till now?
I learnt that Jazz is very beautiful. The way the music play, the way we sing it. Jazz is really interesting as far as i've known. before i know Jazz until the inside of it, I think Jazz is not interesting or attractive in any way. I think its just a piece of music that has different notes similar to Pop and the others. But when i leant now, i've played it, i cant see that jazz is wonderful in a beautiful way.

in the instrument class i prepare for the singing assessment. Mr Hary just basically check my voice so it can measure how high must the instrument be. i'm going to sing What A Wonderful World in 0

Reflection Week 3 ( Jan 30 -February 3, 2012)

how did I do my essay and how did it affect me when learning and applying Jazz?
I learnt much more from that essay so i dont keep wondering where does jazz come from and why its called Jazz. I've done so many research for the essay so i know couple of things. But i actually get the resources from the handouts that the teacher gave me.

In the instrument class i play the F scale again. We just played it as usual because Mr Hary is still not satisfied with our ability in playing flute so he wants to see more progress from us. I definitely should have more time to practice my flute skills

Reflection Week 2 (Jan 23-27, 2012)

How's my progress in learning the note of Jazz?
I still have to learn more about it because sometimes I'm still confused. But I have learn the symbols, so I know better and it would help me a lot.

Today the topic that i learnt in instrument class is F major scale. Me and my friends play the F scale to practice our speed and skill in playing flute. I'm not as fast as the others because i rarely practice at home. So i should work on that..

Reflection Week 1 (Jan 16-20, 2012)

How Did you find the topic of Jazz and how did the teacher do it?

I find the topic from the internet. I think it's very interesting. To show us what Jazz is like, the teacher plays some instruments. They also improvise to show us that jazz needs improvisation too to make it more colorful. 

The topic that we learnt in instrument class is the song called When The Saint Go Marching In. Mr Hary ask us to play that song. It's very hard for me because I didnt have any preparation and the song is quite fast. With some practice and a little speed, i think i could do it.
